Welcome to my home brewing blog. This site and blog are very much under construction right now, so expect to see a lot of changes in the near future. In the meantime, I figured I would explain a little about the blog and what you should expect.
Who am I, and What do I Know About Brewing?
My name is Mike, I’m a native of the Chicago suburbs and I like beer. I’d like to claim that I’m a connoisseur, but I’d be lying. I enjoy sampling different varieties, and I know what I like when I have it, but I couldn’t tell you if one beer was hoppier than another, or what makes a lager different than an ale. I’m hoping to change that, and as I become more of an expert I’ll tell you what I learn.
What do I know about brewing? Well… Nothing. Home brewing is something that in the back of my head I’ve always felt would be fun, but I’ve always been too intimidated to try. I recently watched a program on the Discovery Channel about the history of American beer and one segment they talked about the home brewing revolution and home brewing clubs, and it made up mind for me. I’m going to try it.
And that’s what this blog is really all about. I’m an absolute beginner in the home brewing process, and I’m going to document my experiences here. Hopefully other beginners will be able use my experiences to help them on their way and avoid the inevitable mistakes that I make.
I’m still very much in the research stage of this process. I’ve started researching tips for making your first batch of beer, and I’ve ordered a number of beginners books which I’ll need read. I have not yet purchased any of the necessary supplies, or done any other preparations, so I imagine it will be a few months before I attempt my first batch of beer. In the meantime, I hope to post occasional updates on what I’ve learned, or what I plan to do next.

Good luck with your brewing! I can’t wait until you throw a Settlers of Catan party complete with your homemade brew!!
